Archil Malakmadze added a bronze medal to Georgia’s tally

At the end of the fourth competition day of the European Championships in Batumi, athletes in the 79 kg weight category began competing for medals. Among them on the platform was Archil Malakmadze. In addition to setting Georgian records in the snatch (153), clean and jerk (183), and total (236), the Georgian weightlifter won a bronze medal in the clean and jerk. Overall, he finished fifth both in the snatch and in the total. The champion in the total (341) was neutral individual athlete Gevorg Serobian, who had earlier won the snatch (161) with a European record. The silver medal in the total, with 340 kg, went to Albania’s Briken Calja, who also claimed gold in the snatch (187). Third place was taken by Armenia’s Martin Poghosyan, who totaled 338 kg. He had the second-best result in the clean and jerk (186). Among the medalists were Turkey’s Kaan Kahriman and Romania’s Tiberiu Donose, who won the silver and bronze medals in the snatch, respectively.
