The European Weightlifting Championships have kicked off at the Batumi

The European Weightlifting Championships have kicked off at the Batumi Sports Palace. The first set of medals has been contested. The first to take to the platform were the women competing in the lightest 48-kilogram weight category.

The absolute winner in the weight category was Italy’s Giulia Imperio, who proved best in both the snatch (78) and the clean and jerk (98), with a total of 176 kilograms in the combined event.

With a total of 172 kilograms, Ukraine’s Kateryna Malashchuk claimed the second step of the podium, posting the third-best results in both the snatch (77) and the clean and jerk (95), yet securing the silver medal in the combined total.

In the snatch (77), Bulgarian Boyana Kostadinova placed second according to the first-attempt rule. She recorded the fifth result in the clean and jerk (92), however, with a total of 169 kilograms, she earned the bronze medal in the combined event.

Among the medal winners was Turkey’s Gamze Altun, who claimed the silver medal in the clean and jerk (97 kg).
